Peterbilt engine repair and replacement

Turbo, injectors, head gasket or a complete engine. Here is a Caterpillar C15 replacement on a Peterbilt, photographed in our shop from teardown until the hood went back on.

We repair and replace Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit and PACCAR engines in Peterbilt trucks: turbochargers, injectors, head gaskets, oil coolers, EGR coolers, in frame overhauls and complete engine swaps.

When a swap makes more sense than a rebuild

This Peterbilt came in with a Caterpillar C15 that had broken its crankshaft and a connecting rod. With damage that deep the block and head are in question, and an in frame rebuild would have kept the truck down for weeks. The owner chose a replacement C15, and we did the swap.

  • Diagnosis and teardown confirmed the crankshaft and rod failure.
  • The radiator and cooling package came out as one assembly.
  • Engine accessories, wiring and lines were disconnected and tagged.
  • The transmission was separated and pulled.
  • Engine mounts were unbolted and the old C15 was lifted out of the frame.
  • The replacement engine arrived on a flatbed and was unpacked.
  • Accessories were transferred, the new engine set in, the transmission and cooling package reinstalled.
  • Fluids, a first start, leak checks, and the hood went back on.

Other Peterbilt engine work

Turbo replacement, injector and fuel system faults, aftertreatment and EGR repairs, overheating, oil consumption and blow by, and engine electrical faults. If the transmission or clutch is due, we can do it while the engine is out, since the transmission shop is in the same building.
